The Refuge Program
The Refuge is our six-month, three-phase Christian discipleship program in Azle, Texas, focused on helping men grow in their walk with Jesus Christ while developing personal responsibility, discipline, and healthy patterns for daily life.
Phase I — Foundation
During the first phase, residents focus on their relationship with Christ and removing outside distractions. Each weekday includes four hours of Bible-based classes and four hours of community service. Residents remain on the property during Phase I and surrender personal electronic devices for at least the first 60 days. There are no phone calls, internet use, or visitation during the first 60 days.
Phase II — Growth & Responsibility
As a resident demonstrates personal responsibility and spiritual maturity, privileges are gradually restored. Electronic devices may be returned during designated times, day passes with family and friends may be permitted, and residents may participate in approved daily work projects. Advancement is based on each resident’s continued growth and participation in the program.
Phase III — Preparation & Transition
Residents may receive a weekend pass every other weekend as they continue demonstrating growth and responsibility. Upon completion of the program, residents should be prepared to carry the biblical principles, discipline, and practical skills they have learned into life in the community.
Visitation
Phase II residents may receive visitors during our Wednesday evening service from 5:30–6:30 PM. Sunday visitation is 9:30 AM–5:30 PM for those attending church service, or 1:30–5:30 PM otherwise. Female visitors must be a resident’s wife or immediate family member. No girlfriends.
Cost
There is no charge to stay at The Refuge until graduation and employment.
A TYPICAL DAY AT THE REFUGE
Our days are intentionally structured around biblical discipleship, personal responsibility, community service, and fellowship. Residents begin each morning with a Bible-based class, work and service responsibilities, meals and designated personal time. Evenings include designated free time, chores, and preparation for the next day.
